Website of the Week. . . .

April 30, 2008

If any of you out there have curly hair, you should check out www.naturallycurly.com. This website is all about curls. You can find out what type of hair you have and how to care for it. Believe it or not there are differences in curly hair. Products will work for one person and not work for the next. You will find out about natural products and which chemicals to avoid. I love the message boards. There are discussions about hair and life. One can review products and ask about products you find. The life discussions are great and cover all kinds of topics from strange foods we eat to dancing with the stars. If you are tired of fighting your curls or have already embraced them this site’s for you.

Vintage Razor

April 30, 2008

My husband started shaving with his grandfather’s vintage 1961 Gillette Superspeed safety razor a year ago. Not a big deal until he found www.badgerandblade.com. This is a bunch of guys who shave with vintage double-edged razors and then talk about it in various forums. They do talk about other things, but this of course is the big topic of conversation. This only fueled my husband’s love of shaving, especially with vintage razors. It also led him to start trying to talk me into trying it. For months, I refused. I was quite certain that I would cut myself and probably bleed to death (I’m generally not melodramatic, but a girl has her moments). One can only hold out for so long, especially when last week I realized I was out of blades for my razor. My husband loaned me one of his doubled-edge razors and stuck around to show me how to use it. I really did get a good shave. I don’t have to shave as often and it was fun. So, I’m sold! I now own a 1966 blue handled vintage Lady Gillette safety razor and I find myself looking forward to the nights I get to shave. I hate it when he’s right.

Uncertain, Texas Flea Market

April 30, 2008

Last month my husband noticed a sign on his way home from work advertising a flea market in Uncertain, Texas.  On a whim we drove to Uncertain the next day and began hunting for treasure. It was a fairly typical flea market. There were lots of booths with all kinds of stuff.  Some were cleaner, a little more high class and others were yard sale items. I did, however, find one booth with lots of jewelry and knick knacks.  Everything was clean and neat.  It was here I found a beautiful jade necklace with a gold butterfly.

We also purchased a mustache mug that looks like the guy on the pringles can and a book by Lillian Jackson Braun. Uncertain is one of those places where you may or may not find anything, but you want to go back just in case.   You can visit the Uncertain Flea Market each month on the weekend before the third Monday.  It goes from Friday through Sunday.  Happy hunting!

Hello World!

April 30, 2008

My name is Melissa and I live in North East Texas. I grew up in a small town and married a country boy. At first the idea of a blog seemed a little out there. What do I have to say and does anyone out there care to listen were some of the questions I asked myself. Once I started brainstorming all manner of ideas and thoughts came to me. So here I am sharing my hobbies, activities, experiences, and life with the world. Those who visit here will find book reviews, my fave websites, my latest flea market treasures, and other thoughts I feel just need to be shared. So welcome to all and I hope you find something you like and have a little fun too.
