Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice
by Jane Austen

This was a delightful story. It was my first forray into the world of Jane Austen and I thoroughly loved it! Elizabeth Bennet is one of five sisters all of whom are reaching a marriagable age. At this time in history it is important to make a good match so that a woman will be well taken care of. Women did not work outside the home and were in some ways quite dependant upon husband and father. Elizabeth knows these things to be true and yet still wants the happily ever after of true love. It is fun to watch her grow and change throughout the book. Mr. Darcy is a wealthy man and an only child. He has a habit of being a bit arrogant and doesn’t always make the best first impression. Upon closer scrutiny one finds a dear man with a good heart who shows his love through actions and not mere words or showy gifts. These two begin the story quite disliking one another, but through repeated interactions and meeting things begin to change. It was fun to watch their love grow and to see both of these characters grow and change throughout the story. Elizabeth’s family and friends create a funny backdrop to the whole love story. I will most definitely be reading more Jane Austen and I highly recommend her books.
