In this Jane Austen classic, Emma, is a young girl who fancies herself a matchmaker. She is misguided and doesn’t do such a good job of reading or understanding those around her. It is a fun and lighthearted story and of couse, love prevails and all live happily ever after. I found moments when I was angry with Emma and yet it was easy to forgive. She was always in earnest and sincere. She even sought forgiveness when she realized how badly she had erred. I have seen this and the version starring Gwyneth Paltrow and I must confess to enjoying this version so much more. I found a depth to the story and the characters that seemed to me to be missing from the other movie. This was indeed a fun way to spend my afternoon. Now, I’m off to finish the laundry.
