Abundance: a novel of Marie Antoinette
by Sena Jeter Naslund
This is the story of Marie Antoinette. We first meet Maria Antonia on an island in the Rhine River. She is being born French. She must leave behind her friends, family, and all things Austrian and embrace France and the French way of life. She will soon meet her new husband Louis XVI, the Dauphin of France and begin life anew. I enjoyed reading this novel and getting a glimpse of life during this time. I found it a little sad in the beginning. Marie Antoinette believed herself beloved of the French people and was so full of hope for the future. Alas, the French Revolution could not be stopped. Sometimes change comes with unspeakable violence. I am looking forward to reading my biography of Marie Antoinette. It will be interesting to note the accuracy of the novel.
