The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott
by Kelly O’Connor McNees
Many fans of Little Women have wondered about Laurie and who inspired the character. This book answers that question. It is a work of fiction that explores one summer in the life of Louisa May Alcott, a summer of falling in love. This was a well written book that offered a rare glimpse into the real life of a favorite author. Louisa is a young woman who longs for the freedom of Boston. She wants to write stories for a living and help her family financially. She has determined that marriage is not for her and rather reluctantly falls in love with Joseph Singer. Louisa doesn’t believe that she can be both wife and author. To her, being a wife means losing freedom. Joseph believes that both marriage and dreams are possible with the right person. Can he convince Louisa? Does the “Almighty Friend” have other plans? I enjoyed this book immensely and I hope you will too.
