Shanghai Girls by Lisa See
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This was/is an amazing book. I love Lisa See’s writing. In Shanghai Girls two sisters escape Shanghai and China as the Japanese are invading. They endure unimaginable hardship to come to America. Soon after War World II begins, followed by the Korean War and the Red Scare. This part of American history is rarely taught in schools or at least was rarely taught when I was growing up. I learned a great deal and found the book interesting, fascinating, and disturbing. There is much to gained from reading this book. I am looking forward to the sequel.
